Faraway
An independent hotel rich with history, inspired by a vagabond’s journey around the globe
The Challenge
Located in Edgartown, Martha’s Vineyard, the project comprised nine existing buildings of varying age and condition, several of which required significant structural and interior rehabilitation.
The brief was to transform this fragmented collection into a cohesive hospitality campus while preserving the historic character of the site. The challenge involved coordinating masterplanning and interior architecture across multiple structures, aligning branding, development objectives, preservation requirements, and seasonal operational needs.
As Senior Project Manager, I led the coordination of design development, consultant integration, and documentation across all buildings to ensure consistency in architectural language and execution.

The Result
The completed campus unifies nine structures into a single hospitality destination through a consistent architectural framework and curated interior language.
Historic elements were preserved and restored where possible, while new interventions were carefully inserted to improve circulation, functionality, and guest experience. Interior architecture balances exposed structural elements, warm timber detailing, and layered finishes to reinforce a sense of authenticity and continuity across buildings.
Working closely with branding and development teams, the interiors integrate curated furnishings and custom architectural detailing that support the narrative concept while maintaining coherence at a campus scale.
Unified Campus Framework: Nine historic buildings were connected through a coordinated interior strategy, aligning circulation, material continuity, and spatial hierarchy to function as a single hospitality destination.
Layered, Collected Interiors: Guest rooms and public spaces blend midcentury influences, vintage furnishings, and custom pieces to create a curated, era-spanning interior language that feels intentional rather than themed.
Nature-Rooted Material Expression: A warm, sandy palette, botanical references, and textured finishes draw directly from Martha’s Vineyard’s landscape, embedding a strong sense of place within the interior architecture.
